Description

After what seems like months of cloudy morning, I was able to capture a brief animation of AR3664 right on the western limb.  The GONG Ha images showed a nice vertical prom so that was my target for the little bit of time before the usual clouds rolled in.  The resulting animation covers 36 minutes elapsed time.  I used the Regle Solaire overlay to estimate the height of the prom to be around 90,000km/56,000 miles.   Placing the cursor on the image will show the Regle Solaire overlay with a scaled Earth.

The animation shows hot plasma material raining down from high in the Sun's atmosphere onto the "bubbling" surface below.   The much smaller prom located in the very bottom right shows additional plasma moving toward AR3664.

AR3664 was the large sunspot group that caused the intense geomagnetic storm that produced the magnificent auroral displays seen all over the world including here in Hawaii (which I did not see because it was raining).

Equipment was Lunt LS80Tha, single stack
Televue 3x Barlow
ASI174MM camera

72 captures of 10 sec x 20 sec delay.  Stacked in AutoStakkert!3, sharpened and aligned in ImPPG, animation in PIPP.  Photoshop used to make the Regle Solaire overlay.
